I am still awaiting the day when FOSS drivers will perform as good as or even better than the proprietary ones... I can dream, can't I?
Yep. Interesting how things works out!
My 750Ti is now 5 years old, always on nouveau. I got it for it's 4 ports to replace an AMD 3 port. Seemed like a good decision at the time. I am days away from reversing the choice. The very AMD that came out is going back in and the nvidia is destined for the auction (4GB 4 port).
I learned that my ancient quadro FX1500 does as well as the 750, sad. The radeon and amdgpu have matured, while nouveau has simply aged. Life is too short to chase after nvidia's, or anything that breaks every other upgrade.
I became enchanted with the ability to dynamically assign a gpu during runtime. This is really how it should be! Nouveau and Radeon xorg foss drivers can do this. As of yet amdgpu can't, so this changed the destiny of my triple amdgpu monster for all OS's.
Luckily I'm not much of a gamer. My favorite of all time Descent runs on Linux better than anywhere else. Those oddball amd Sky gpu's have drivers for everything, even with 4GB ECC vram they run 32 bit XP! That 4GB 750Ti has 32 bit drivers, but they choke with 4GB, so bad choice...
