I'm writing you this from my old Xubuntu 18.04 backup install.

I'm currently running Linux Mint 20 XFCE.  Yesterday the power went off.  I don't know if it had anything to do with it or not.  But today I can't get online with it.

I've been google searching all day long and can't find one thing that is helpful.  I tried several things, and nothing helps.  I also tried posting in the Linux Mint forums and nobody has been helpful with this either.  I keep getting this error.

The information I found on this is all over the place....  I can't tell from it where to start diagnosing.

looks like a good  possibility that when the power went out it may surged and knocked out that part of the computer.
Friends don't let friends use WIndows or Mac OS.

I think I got it fixed now.  At least I'm online with it!

Here is what I did to fix it.

I had to boot into the Live Media, and copy/replace a bunch of files.  Somewhere in the haystack was the problem.

/etc/netplan/
Code: [Select]
1-network-manager-all.yaml
/etc/network/
Code: [Select]
if-down.d
if-post-down.d
if-pre-up.d
if-up.d
interfaces
interfaces.d

/etc/networkd-dispatcher/
Code: [Select]
carrier.d
degraded.d
dormant.d
no-carrier.d
off.d
routable.d

/etc/NetworkManager/
Code: [Select]
conf.d
dispatcher.d
dnsmasq.d
dnsmasq-shared.d
NetworkManager.conf
system-connections

/var/lib/NetworkManager/
Code: [Select]
internal-e5adbda3-f8e8-3aef-9c81-da492b95d19f-enp0s31f6.lease
NetworkManager-intern.conf
NetworkManager.state
secret_key
seen-bssids
timestamps
