What errors are you getting when accessing apt or aptitude? Also, Debian based distributions do not always have the drivers you need out of the box. If you are using Broadcom, plan for some headaches in setting that up.

Code: [Select]
lspci | grep Networkreveals your network interface like this:
Code: [Select]
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (Lewisville) (rev 04)
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] (rev 34)

Thanks for the tip . But I was using apt-get not aptitude. As for the code you just pasted I get this back.
Code: [Select]
"0.0 Network  controller: Realtek semiconductor Co., LTD. RtL8188EE Wireless Network Adapter (rev01) "I've tried a bunch of other commands suggested by the Kali documents like rfkill and they are not hard or soft blocked.

As for the apt-get update  I get errors similar to:
Code: [Select]
failing to fetch and temporary failure resolving and that some indexed files failed to download

The reason you are getting apt (this can also apply to aptitude) errors is because you do not have a functioning network interface. Debian likes to keep non-free drivers separate. Now that we know what the network card is we search for files:

Here is a list of mirrors where you can download the realtek firmware. Should that prove to be insufficient, an internet search for "realtek debian driver" will reveal more options.

Once the deb is installed and a restart of the network is completed, you should be able to start using the OS as intended.

Spatry is always pleased to help people get up and running, but I will SHOOT him if he starts making aircrackng tutorials and pen-testing home networks! Because software in distributions like Kali can be abused, we will not discuss how to use those hacking programs.
