Do you want to play a game?
« on: December 02, 2014, 04:00:21 PM »
Let's get a discussion going!

I've just been promoted to Game Night Coordinator, and want to get a firm idea of what kinds of games the community plays. Personally, I'm an RPG / RTS kind of guy. I'm not a huge fan of FPS games, but do play them on occasion (my favorite being Nexuiz).

When I was growing up I used to play Starcraft for days (literally....). Starcraft was my favorite RTS of all time and I used to travel hours to go to different LAN parties in the area where we would play the same match for sometimes (on one occasion my best friend and I played the same match for almost two months).

Another one of my favorite games is Diablo 2 which is where my username derives from. I couldn't tell you how many hours I've logged in both the original and 2 (+expansion).

Now I'd like to hear from you guys! What are your gaming experiences, what are your favorite games? Know of any good free to play games, mention it here so we all can enjoy it!

Speaking of War Games, i still have the big box windows 95 game of WAR GAMES, a 3D RTS game which is pretty cool. Based on the movie of course but not following it's storyline at all.

I suggest WARSOW as a FPS-game for Game Night.
It has a higher skill-cap than other Arena-shooters like Nexuiz or Xonotic, since it is even faster and includes wall-hopping.
However it also looks SO MUCH BETTER (if you are into that cartoony stile).

The Gameplay is so much fun and I think it would be very suitable for GameNight. The system-requirements aren't high either so it should run even on crappy hardware (just like Xonotic, Nexuiz or Alien Arena)

Slower Gameplay:

It's available in many Community-Repos, on their Website or you can get it from GOG.com

Yes, we had a BLAST in the first few gaming nights, when we played Xonotic and Alien Arena, a few months back. Can be fun for a while, but here's where your new "2-games-per-gamenight" system really shines. because most as a casual to the genre, you simply cannot play such a fast-paced game for an hour straight.

Robocraft is REALLY fun, indeed. Last time i checked, it was a bit awkward to get into a game together but not much of a hassle either. I played it quite long with a friend of mine. However, you cannot create privat matches, which is the exact thing it has to have to be suitabe for gamenight. However, there are constant updates and additions to the game, so we may see that feature included in the future
