An article from The Register covering Void Linux having its lead developer go silent, and Korara going on hiatus.

To paraphrase: as the general trends of Linux grow, and our expectations get higher, it becomes a safer choice to be on the top distros, but we lose some of the special configurations and niche choices the small distros allow. Void, for example, is popular around here for not using systemd.
These projects can continue of course, as we have that freedom. It becomes most important in situations like these. But still, do you think these more niche choices are harder to survive these days?
