I was finally able to make the jump

Back to Manjaro.

Thankfully, someone did some very good work so those of us with intel/nvidia hybrid graphics in our laptops don't have to deal with the massive suckage named Bumblebee.  They finally made it possible to have it work just like Ubuntu sets it up with nvidia-prime.

It's called Optimus-manager and it seems to work perfectly and there's a page on the Manjaro wiki that makes setup dead simple.  If you install the git version off of the AUR, you even get the bonus of a systray icon for easy GPU swapping.
If you must persist, I will be forced to tar you, then gzip you and finally umount you.

Yup... I was able to disable the Hybrid (intel) graphics on my thinkpad and install the discreet (nvidia) driver... The Manjaro team has put a lot of love into their driver stacks. Glad you know you were able to find something which worked out for you.
